Rick Sharp
Rick was a visionary leader and dynamic businessman known for his many passions and ability to transform industries. He was the CEO of Circuit City, the nation’s first big box electronics retailer, a founding investor of the shoe brand Crocs, and in 1993, he disrupted the used car industry, founding mega-retailer CarMax. Rick was also a loyal friend, dedicated father, and devoted husband to his high school sweetheart, Sherry.
Rick's diagnosis of Alzheimer's in 2010 gave him a passion for finding a cure for the deadly disease that would take his life four years later. Upon his death, and inspired by his fight, Sherry and some of Rick's business associates, friends, and fellow advocates came together as the Rick Sharp Alzheimer’s Foundation to advance vital science to end Alzheimer’s.
RSAF now works as the Rick Sharp Alzheimer’s Initiative (RSAI) at Cure Alzheimer’s Fund to raise funds to support the research that is speeding the race to a cure. RSAI-supported CureAlz projects empower scientists to discover and test new pathways for potential Alzheimer's disease interventions.
